FREE HTC Evo 4G Wifi Tether!

by HTC Evo 4G on Monday, June 7th, 2010

For those of you who don’t feel like paying extra $30/month to Sprint for the mobile hotspot feature, you don’t have to by rooting your HTC Evo 4G phone, then installing an Android app called “Android Wifi Tether” to tether multiple devices for free.

I just started using this free tether app on my rooted HTC Evo 4G and works really great, connects every gadget I own.

    I rooted my HTC Evo and follow the wireless tether instructions but when I attempt to start the wireless tether I get the error message: “Unable to start tethering. Please try again!”

    Any suggestions?

    Did you download the latest version of wifi tether? and root the phone of course?

    @James R
    the same thing happened to me even after i rooted my friends evo just go to the internet on your evo and google search Unrevoked and download it to your phone then once you run the app you can tether but if you turn off your phone you will have to run the app again :( but you still get the free tethering

    I wouldn’t recommend unrevoked because Sprint will eventually block that. If you root it for real, Sprint can’t block you.

    Mines works, I use it on my itouch. I rooted first then install then reboot the evo. Trust me you don’t wanna pay extra for wifi service.

    Worked like a champ for me – I used unrevoked – if Sprint blocks – then I will root the old fashioned way…

    I’m a new EVO owner, and a novice at downloading and programming. I know there is a lot of information regarding tethering and rooting, all of which is confusing to a novice. So my question is there a simple step by step guide for a novice (dummy) and is this something a novice can do. Is there someone out there doing this for $ and how much $. I have a new EVO 2.2 android.
