by HTC Evo 4G on Saturday, June 12th, 2010

For those of you looking to upgrade your HTC Evo 4G’s storage, you will want to read up on what kind of micro SD card you need.

Micro SD cards have “class” rating, which is basically how “fast” they can transfer data.  Most micro SD cards sold at BestBuy, RadioShack, and retail stores are class 2, the slowest of them all.

Class 2 SD cards are rated at transfer rate of 2MB/s while Class 4 is rated at 4MB/s, Class 6 at 6MB/s, Class 8 at 8MB/s, and Class 10 at 10MB/s.

If you plan on using a larger micro SD card such as a 16GB micro SD card and you want to use your HTC Evo 4G as a small portable backup drive, you will want to get the fastest class micro SD card, the Class 10.

So, without delay, let me recommend the best micro SD cards for your needs.

First, if you want the biggest and fastest micro SD card on your HTC Evo 4G, Kingston makes 16GB Class 10 micro SD cards.  This bad boy micro SD card does 16GB at 10MB/s.  If you are going to be transferring a lot of media files back and forth, your money will be well spent on the fastest micro SD card in the world right now.  ($97.89 on Amazon)

Of course, if you don’t need such a fast micro SD card, my suggestion is to just go ahead with a Class 2 SD cards.

The SanDisk Class 2 MicroSD is just $31.99 on Amazon and will be enough to get most things done.

Of course, if you want something in-between, there’s Class 4 micro SD cards and even Class 6 micro SD cards.

Whatever you do, don’t buy microSD cards at a retail store like BestBuy or RadioShack because you will pay additional 20-25% over Amazon’s prices, order them online.
